A container welfare unit is a self-contained facilities block built into a 20ft or 40ft shipping container. Everything your site workers need — toilet, washing facilities, rest area, and kitchenette — in one unit that arrives ready to connect up.
Under CDM 2015, adequate welfare facilities are required on all construction sites. Phil's welfare units are built to the standard sanitary and rest facility specification — always confirm specifics with your CDM coordinator.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Toilet | Flush WC with mains connection, or chemical cassette option for sites without mains water |
| Washbasin | Hot and cold running water, soap dispenser point |
| Drying area | Coat hooks and drying rail — standard requirement on site |
| Rest area | Fixed seating for 6–8 workers (20ft) or 10–15 workers (40ft) |
| Kitchenette | Microwave point, kettle point, and sink |
| Electrics | Consumer unit, LED lighting throughout, sockets, immersion heater |
| Insulation and heating | 100mm insulated wall and ceiling panels, electric panel heater standard |
Suitable for sites with up to 6–8 workers. Compact enough for most access routes — same footprint as a standard 20ft container.
For larger sites with 10–15 workers. More seating, larger rest area — still delivered in one piece by HIAB.
Buy or Hire — Phil Will Advise
Welfare units are available to buy or hire. If your project is under three months, hire often makes more sense than purchasing. Call Phil to talk through what works for your project duration.
Welfare unit conversions start from £5,000 on top of the base container. Call 020 8226 0007 for a firm quote based on your spec and site location.
Tell Phil your site headcount, project duration, and location — he'll come back with an exact price to your postcode. No call centres, no scripts.
