Container conversions are gaining more and more popularity with each passing year. This has given designers and architects the world over inspiration to make some truly unique designs purely using recycled shipping containers.
Today, we’re going to take a look at the quirkiest container conversions from around the world to explore what makes them so unique.
A popular choice for coffee shops, as the container adds a certain aesthetic, it’s not unusual to see containers converted into one. One coffee shop in Midrand, South Africa, decided to go the extra mile and make their shop two-storey instead of the usual single.
But what else makes this particular coffee shop unique? Aside from its extra floor, it is also a miniature museum of sorts with displays of old coffee making machines on both storeys which customers can admire while they drink their latte.
What happens when you have a multitude of unused shipping containers? You turn them into a fully functioning concert hall, of course! For one designer in Sion, Switzerland, that’s exactly what they did, creating an auditorium, stage, ticket desk and rehearsal room.
Of course, these containers were put into an existing building rather than creating an entirely new one, but the innovation is still there and, we’ll admit, it’s pretty clever. It definitely offers a unique atmosphere and os the perfect venue for some underground band gigs.
While making student accommodation out of recycled materials is nothing new, making them out of shipping containers while floating on water is something totally out there. For the university in Copenhagen, Denmark, they’ve done just that, saving on both money and space.
In case you’re wondering, you can rent out one of these student properties for £472 a month. It’s definitely something different to wake up to, in any case.
